ENUGU, NIGERIA — The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially declared the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, as its gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming 2027 general election.

The declaration followed the formal conclusion of the collation of results from the party's primary elections, which saw a massive turnout of 397,370 accredited party faithful across the state's 260 wards.

Accepting the nomination at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Enugu on Friday, Governor Mbah expressed profound gratitude to the party members, noting that the mandate carries significant responsibility.

"This moment is not one I take for granted. For me, there was never a sense of entitlement," Mbah stated. "I accept this nomination with full awareness of the expectations that come with it, buoyed by the knowledge that it’s not an unfamiliar path for me."

Moving Beyond Abstract Promises:

Reflecting on his administration's governance philosophy, Governor Mbah noted that the administration’s core campaign mantra, "Tomorrow Is Here," has transitioned from an abstract concept into a visible reality for the people of Enugu.

According to Mbah, his administration has successfully dismantled the long-standing public skepticism that political campaign promises are rarely kept.

"What once felt distant – that tomorrow could be different – is no longer abstract. It is taking shape," the Governor remarked. "It is visible in the routines of daily life, in how people travel, how they work, and how they now access services that were once unreliable or out of reach. We have smashed the notion that promises matter more than performance."

Mid-Term Scorecard:

Sectoral Achievements Highlighted

During his acceptance speech, Governor Mbah reeled off several key developmental milestones achieved under his stewardship across security, education, health, and industrialization:

Security & Public Confidence:

The restoration of regular Monday economic and social activities across the state, backed by the deployment of a modern Command and Control Centre alongside advanced security infrastructure.

Education:

The rollout of ward-based Smart Green Schools designed to provide fit-for-purpose, modern learning models for children.

Healthcare Access:

The establishment of at least one Type-2 Primary Healthcare Centre in each of the state's 260 wards, removing location as a barrier to quality medical access.

Agricultural Mechanization: Increased crop yields in rural areas driven by modern agricultural machinery, moving past traditional labor-intensive practices.

Industrial Revival:

The resuscitation of key moribund assets, including the Songhai Heneke Farm in Ezeagu and United Palm Products Limited, both of which are now driving youth employment.

Infrastructure & Transport:

Over 1,500 kilometers of road interventions completed, alongside the launch of five world-class transport terminals, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, and the introduction of the regional carrier, Enugu Air.

Mbah attributed a significant portion of these successes to the fiscal and structural policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, which he noted have made critical developmental resources available to subnational governments.

APC Primary Panel Commends Internal Democracy:

Announcing the final results, the Chairman of the Enugu State APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Hon. Danmalikin Hausa, praised the chapter for conducting a peaceful, rancor-free, and highly organized primary.

Hausa described the Enugu chapter as a baseline model for internal democracy, consensus-building, and operational synergy within the party.

"Enugu State APC is a well-coordinated chapter where internal democracy, consensus-building, discipline, synergy, and peace reign supreme. The whole exercise has been rancor-free and indeed a carnival of sorts," Hausa remarked.

The primary panel chairman also extended appreciation to President Tinubu and the national executive leadership of the APC, led by National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, for providing the enabling environment and exemplary leadership required to midwife transparent and credible subnational primary processes.
