The National Democratic Congress, NDC, candidate for Cross River South senatorial district, Prophetess Esther Archibong, has declared that her performance in the Senate will surpass that of the incumbent if elected in the 2027 general election.
Archibong stated this yesterday at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar, where a large crowd of supporters received her.
She said she possessed the capacity to provide the effective representation that has long eluded the district.
An indigene of Bakassi, she said her people have suffered neglect and displacement since the International Court of Justice ruling that ceded Bakassi to Cameroon. "A lot has happened to us. And nobody is speaking for us," she lamented.
She said her priority is to restore hope, dignity and proper housing to Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in Bakassi. "My plan for the people of Bakassi is to give them hope," she said.
"Most of us have been neglected. So, my IDPs, no houses, no proper housing. So, we are ready to turn everything around." She attributed militancy in the creeks to abandonment, stating, "That's why I said it was because the people who displaced us have neglected us," but assured that "there is a solution to every of these challenges."
While admitting that the incumbent APC Senator, Asuquo Ekpenyong, "is performing tremendously," Archibong maintained that her representation would be more impactful and people-centred and would "make Cross River South an economic hub" through massive empowerment and human capital development.
She dismissed fears that the NDC cannot unseat the ruling APC, insisting that what matters to the people is effective representation, not party dominance.
"NDC is a party that God has brought as a rescue to every man," she said. "I'm not afraid because power belongs to the people," she declared, urging constituents to embrace her mission, saying, "You should arise, shine, for your light is here."
