There is apprehension that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) may dissolve the State Working Committee (SWC) of Enugu state chapter on Wednesday.

This is as there are strong discussions in Enugu and Abuja that Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu state may officially defect to the APC on Thursday and take over the leadership of the party in the state.

Different members of the APC in Abuja and and in Enugu state gave the indication, on Tuesday, saying that was just but a matter of hours before the Ugochukwu Agballa-led leadership of the the APC in Enugu state is thrown out with the embattled minister for Innovation Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji.

Daily Insider gathered that the development may not be unconnected with a state High court order which had earlier in 2024 restrained Ugochukwu Agballa from parading himself as Chairman of the party pending when a suit filed against him by some members of his Executive is determined.

The former National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Ganduje had refused to act on the petition sent to his office by a faction of the party which dragged Agballa to court.

Despite the court order, Agballa remained in office at the moment of this report.

The Dr. Alphonsus Nwafor-led faction of the party in the state had suspended Agballah and others from the party and obtained a court injunction restraining Agballah from parading himself as the Chairman of APC in Enugu state.

While Ugo Agballah could not vacate the injunction, the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) went ahead to deal with Nwafor as the Chairman of the APC in Enugu state when the commission conducted local government council elections in the state, last year.

ENSIEC had reportedly given Nwafor all the corporation for fielding of candidates and materials for the council election.

Nwafor slammed Agballah’s antic of posturing and rabble-rousing instead of toeing the legal method of proving himself and described Ugo Agballah and co as “dissidents."

However, reacting to the development, the Ugo Agballa led group of the party, on Tuesday, described their anticipated dissolution of the state executive committee as a figment of the imaginations of detractors paid to distract the leadership of APC in Enugu State.

In a statement made available by the faction's state publicity secretary, Titus Ezeagu, the group said that their attention was drawn to online publication claiming that the Exco of APC Enugu State has been dissolved by the NWC.

"This is not only a fake news that emanates from the imaginations of the poster for social media clout chasing through click baiting, it's also a calculated attempt by his PDP sponsors to distract the leadership of the APC in Enugu sate.

"It is on record that the APC Enugu State since after the last general elections become the most attractive political brand in the State, commanding an intimidating wave of massive high profile defectors from all political parties including the ruling PDP in the State among whom are 3 serving members of House of Representatives and a senator, this is largely due to the unwavering commitment and dedication of the state party leadership and members of state EXCO.

"We hereby call on the APC faithfuls and general public to disregard the news as it is entirely false.

"The State EXCO of APC Enugu State under the able leadership of the Hon Barr. Ugochukwu Agballah continue to enjoy the full support of the NWC of our great party as we continue to build our party, promote the good works of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through our leader the Hon. Minister for Innovation Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji and position the party for victory in Enugu State come 2027.

"We remain unperturbed by the antics of failed media propagandists as we are focused on liberating the good people of Enugu State from the decades of economic and social strangulation of the poor masses of Enugu state by the PDP led government in the State," Ezeagu wrote.
