Agbo, veteran Journalist, becomes Enugu Commissioner for Information

Veteran journalist, Dr. Malachy Agbo has been redeployed as the new commissioner for Information in Enugu state.

Earlier than Wednesday, Agbo was the commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Eradication since 2023 when he was appointed by Governor Peter Mbah.

He replaces Mr. Aka Eze Aka who was the former commissioner for Information until he emerged as the Chairman of Udenu local government council.

Agbo is a seasoned journalist with over 20 years of experience. He holds degrees in Mass Communication from the University of Nigeria Nsukka and the University of Lagos. He bagged a Doctorial degree earned in Mass Communication from Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).

 His career includes roles at THISDAY Newspapers and Diamond Bank Plc. He founded THE CITIZEN, an online newspaper promoting good governance. In 2016, he became Caretaker Chairman of Igbo-Etiti LGA, then elected Chairman in 2017. He served as a Senior Special Assistant and in 2023 he became the Commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Eradication in Enugu State. 

Agbo emerged as the new commissioner for Information in a cabinet reshuffle, on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mbah charged the appointees to hit the ground running, stressing that there would be no honeymoon period for them.

He said the administration had in two years steered high expectations among the people of the state as well as Nigerians in general and could not to lower the its performance across sectors.

“You would soon notice that here in Enugu, we have steered such a high expectation among our people. And everyday it feels as though we are presenting a scorecard.

“Therefore, you have to hit the ground running, as there will be no honeymoon period for you, unfortunately."
