The Managing Director of Enugu State Broadcasting Service (ESBS), Dr Ladi Akeredolu-Ale, on Saturday hailed Gov. Peter Mbah investment in modern broadcasting as the ESBS wins "Radio Station of the Year" award.

The state government-owned ESBS emerged as “Radio Station of the Year” for original indigenous productions in business, drama and sports programming.

The award was conferred on ESBS through its radio arm, Sunrise 96.1 FM, by the Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON) at a ceremony held in Abuja recently.

Akeredolu-Ale, who also doubles as the Chief Executive Officer of ESBS, said that the award was the first of its kind in the station’s history as a public broadcaster.

He attributed the feat to renewed investment in the station and a return to professional broadcasting standards under the administration of Gov. Mbah, which assumed office in May 2023.

According to him, this national award within hundreds of broadcasting stations is a historic milestone for ESBS and Enugu State.

Akeredolu-Ale expressed gratitude to God and the Enugu State Government for creating an enabling environment for quality broadcasting that Nigerians had attested to.

"This award is dedicated to our result-focused and technology-focused governor, His Excellency Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, who have made huge investment in modern broadcasting and programming.

"We in ESBS pledge to continue in our commitment to excellence and dedication to securing more accolades for the state," he added.

The managing director said that the award marked a significant boost for ESBS, reinforcing its position as a leading public broadcaster in Nigeria.

It would be recalled that event for the award attracted top professionals and stakeholders in the broadcasting industry from across Nigeria and beyond.

The recognition followed a rigorous selection process involving entries from radio stations nationwide.
