Anambra state Police Commissioner Ikioye Orutugu has presented the sum of eight million naira to the families of thirteen police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

This is. coming as the Police Command recovered the lifeless body of an alleged kidnap victim at Nimo in Njikoka local government area of Anambra state.

In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, those honoured include an Inspector who was mistakenly and fatally shot by a friendly Force at a Police Observation Point along Onitsha-Owerri Expressway by Danaks Fuel Station and 12 others. 

Consequently, the commissioner of police presented cheques worth over N8,000,000 (Eight Million Naira) to 13 families of the late Police officers under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Schemes

The gesture is an initiative of the Inspector-General of Police aimed at providing succour to the families of Police officers who died in active service.

 It is also aimed at spurring officers to greater commitment while discharging their statutory duties, with the assurance that their welfare is of paramount importance to the Force's leadership.

 The CP while presenting the cheques to the beneficiaries, thanked the Inspector-General of Police for his relentless efforts towards ensuring a good welfare package for personnel of the Force and urged the beneficiaries to use the money wisely by investing in a profitable venture that will in turn, alleviate the needs of the dependents left behind"

The CP charged the Officers to enhance their efforts in maintaining Law and Order.

On the discovery of a lifeless body at Nimo, Ikenga said that the Operatives of the Anambra State Police in the early hours of 23rd June 2025 recovered a lifeless body of an alleged kidnapped victim in Nimo. The Command has also stepped up efforts to arrest the suspects behind this heinous crime.

The victim who was later identified as Mr Ozor Augustine Chido was allegedly abducted in the morning of 19th June 2025 at his piggery farm in Nimo.

 "The Operatives were still actively involved to rescue the victim but unfortunately, his lifeless body was discovered on 23rd June, 2025, near his farm in Nimo," Ikemba said.

Meanwhile, the body of the victim has been deposited at the morgue, while the Command sympathized with the victim's family and the community and assured that it shall leave no stone unturned in unmasking the suspects behind the dastardly act.
