Anyichuks Drops Bombshell: Vows to Scrap Salary, Promises 5,000 Houses for Ebonyi Workers
According to Odii, the housing programme would be structured in a manner that would minimise reliance on direct government funding
ABAKALIKI — The 2027 governorship race in Ebonyi State is gathering momentum, with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ifeanyi Odii, unveiling a far-reaching package of proposals aimed at improving the welfare of workers, teachers and retirees in the state.
Odii made the commitments during a meeting with representatives of Ebonyi civil servants and members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) at his Lagos residence, where he outlined his plans for a comprehensive reform of the state’s public service.
A major highlight of his proposals is a workers’ housing scheme that would deliver 1,000 housing units within his first year in office and up to 5,000 units over four years if elected governor.
According to Odii, the housing programme would be structured in a manner that would minimise reliance on direct government funding, with contributions and existing pension assets forming part of the financing framework.
He said the initiative was designed to address the housing challenges confronting workers and retirees, particularly those who struggle to maintain rented accommodation after leaving government employment.
The PDP candidate also proposed the introduction of a paperless, digital loan platform that would enable workers to access loans against their contributory pension savings without the bureaucratic hurdles associated with the existing system.
On retirement benefits, Odii pledged that workers would be able to access their entitlements immediately upon retirement, arguing that retirees should not be subjected to prolonged delays before receiving benefits they had earned during their years of service.
He further promised to reform the promotion process through the introduction of computer-based promotion examinations that would generate results instantly.
According to him, the digital system would eliminate unnecessary delays, reduce opportunities for manipulation and ensure greater transparency and fairness in the promotion of civil servants.
Odii said his proposed reforms were aimed at building a public service system in which workers would have greater access to housing, credit, timely retirement benefits and a more transparent career progression process.
He presented the proposals as part of his broader agenda to improve workers’ welfare and reposition the Ebonyi State civil service for greater efficiency if given the mandate to govern the state in 2027.
