JUST IN: Bandits Attack Borno School During NECO Exam, Abduct Students, Kill Teacher
The attackers struck while candidates were writing their papers. A teacher was shot dead and another injured during the raid
Armed bandits on Monday invaded Government Day Secondary School in Lassa town, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, abducting several students sitting for the National Examination Council, NECO, Senior School Certificate Examination.
The attackers struck while candidates were writing their papers. A teacher was shot dead and another injured during the raid.
Residents disclosed that the Nigerian military troops stationed in Lassa had left for a patrol to nearby Uba, about 16 kilometers away, shortly before the insurgents arrived.
“The soldiers were not around when the terrorists invaded. They came in large numbers, firing sporadically and causing panic everywhere. They took away students writing NECO and their teachers,” residents said.
Borno State Police spokesperson Nahum Daso confirmed the attack and said several students remain missing.
The incident comes weeks after another mass abduction of pupils in Borno State, with those victims still unaccounted for. It also follows a similar abduction reported in Oyo State.
As of the time of filing this report, all victims from the Lassa attack remain in captivity.
