Criticism Can't Erase My Achievements -- Nat. Lawmaker Abang

NSAN NDOMA-NEJI, Calabar 

The lawmaker representing Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency, Hon. Victor Abang, has declared that constant criticism by political opponents cannot erase his achievements three years into the 10th National Assembly, insisting that his scorecard speaks for itself.

Abang, who spoke on Wednesday in Calabar while reacting to claims that he has performed below average, said he has fulfilled his promise of quality and responsive representation. 

"When I was sworn into office, I made a solemn promise that our representation would be people-oriented, accessible, responsive, and focused on tangible development," he said.

Dismissing his critics, the lawmaker said his legislative and constituency record has vindicated him. 

On the floor of the House, he listed his motions on the Nigeria-Cameroon boundary dispute to protect Danare and Biajua, the invasion of Okwa community by Cameroonian nationals, completion of the NDDC Specialist Hospital in Ikom.

According to him, other stride achieved include, dredging of Calabar Seaport and rehabilitation of the Odukpani Junction-Ekot Ekpene road.

He enumerated his bills that he initiated at the floor of the house to include the Elite Sheriff Corps Establishment Bill, Federal College of Agriculture and Forestry Okundi, Federal Medical Centre Boki, Federal College of Education (Technical) Ikom, and an amendment for an independent Okwangwo National Park Unit.

He said over 4,000 constituents have benefited from his human capital interventions, including 1,000 beneficiaries of Conditional Cash Transfer, 1,000 of Renewed Hope Nano Grant, 400 students on educational support, grants to 27 Law School students.

He added, "Over 150 youths under NDE and ITF Skill-Up programmes, 100 artisans living with disabilities empowered, agrochemicals for 1,350 cocoa farmers, and N48 million Christmas and New Year support across 22 wards".

Abang further pointed to tangible projects in education, health and infrastructure, including renovation of over 12 primary schools, construction of classroom blocks in Etikpe, Alesi and Bekpor-Irruan, donation of N350 million hospital equipment to Abo Ebam Health Centre, solar power for health facilities.

Others include, N70 million relief for Ikom Market fire victims, installation of hundreds of solar streetlights, transformers, borehole rehabilitation, markets, town halls, and facilitation of MTN mini-masts in 25 communities including Kakwe Beebo and Okwa.

He maintained that more projects have been captured in the 2026 Federal Budget to consolidate his performance.

 "These accomplishments are not specifically mine alone, but the result of a shared vision," he said, adding that he remains guided by "humility, accessibility, accountability, diligence, and service." He maintained.
