DAVID MARK: Why I resigned from PDP, leading Coalition ADC
David Mark

Former Senate President and now leader of the new coalition political party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark has giving reasons why he threw in the towel in his ardent membership of his former political party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and has been made the interim National Chairman of the ADC.

In a resignation letter he addressed to his native PDP Ward 1, Otukpo in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, Mark said: "I write to formally inform you of my decision to resign my membership of the party with immediate effect.

"You may recall that over the years, I have remained firm and deeply committed to the ideals of the PDP. Even when nearly all stakeholders departed the party following our loss in the 2015 presidential election, I pledged to remain the last man standing.

"I have worked steadfastly to rebuild, reconcile, and reposition the party, efforts which without sounding immodest helped restore the PDP to national relevance and made it once again a party of choice for many Nigerians.

"However, recent events marked by deepening divisions, persistent leadership crisis, and irreconcilable differences have reduced the party to a shadow of its former self, subjecting it to public ridicule.

"After wide consultations with my family, friends, and political associates, I have resolved to join the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement in Nigeria, as part of the collective effort to rescue our nation and preserve our hard-earned democracy."

An a late development, Mark has already been nominated as the interim National Chairman and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbeshola as Secretary of the party, ADC, respectively.

In an update from the National coalition movement, the group decided on and adopted the ADC as the coalition platform for the 2027 General election.

The decision was made at a meeting of the expanded national coalition leaders held on Tuesday 1st of July 2025.

According to them, the decision was a product of consensus among the leaders of the coalition movement and their patriotic sacrifice in the interest of the nation.

It disclosed that "In what would go down as a historic move, HE Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, leading the Social Democratic Party (SDP) caucus in the coalition movement, moved the motion for the adoption of the ADC as the coalition platform while HE Peter Obi of the Labour Party seconded the motion.

"Following that historic moment, Senator David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbeshola were nominated and ratified as interim National Chairman and Secretary of the party (ADC) respectively.

"It is important to inform, especially our supporters and SDP members that members of the legacy parties, viz SDP and Labour Party, who have already scheduled elections to run, would remain in their respective parties for those elections and would be supported by the coalition movement in those elections.

"We wish to assure all Nigerians that the coalition movement is a goal, exemplified by the spirit of selflessness, patriotism, and sacrifice exhibited by the leaders of the movement."
