EFCC Arrests Self-Proclaimed Spiritualist Over Alleged Sextortion

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a self-proclaimed spiritualist, Odigie Moses, over his alleged involvement in a sextortion scheme that reportedly netted him $1,100 from a foreign victim.

The suspect was apprehended in Ekpoma, Edo State, according to a statement issued on Friday by the EFCC's Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.

The anti-graft agency alleged that Moses posed as a spiritual healer on the Zelle social media platform, where he claimed to possess supernatural powers capable of solving life-threatening challenges.

According to the Commission, an Indian woman seeking spiritual assistance contacted the suspect, who allegedly persuaded her to take a naked spiritual bath under the guise of a healing ritual.

The EFCC said the suspect secretly recorded the session without the victim's consent and later blackmailed her with threats to publish the explicit video unless she paid him money.

Investigations by the Commission revealed that the victim eventually paid the suspect $1,100 to prevent the release of the recording.

The EFCC disclosed that the suspect remains in its custody and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
