Ebonyi group fumes over property revocation threat against its chairman, Emma Igwe
The EDDM expressed particular concern over an alleged revocation process involving a property in the Park Estate Extension Commercial Zone, allocated to Igwe and covered by a valid Certificate of Occupancy
The Ebonyi Democratic Movement (EDDM) has called on the Ebonyi State Government to explain reports of an alleged move to revoke properties belonging to its Chairman, Chief Emmanuel Chidi Igwe.
The group, in a communiqué signed by its Secretary, Ekene Ukwuome, on Saturday, said the alleged action appeared to have followed recent political developments in Ezzagu, where the four political wards reportedly endorsed the gubernatorial candidacy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Chief Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, on September 22, 2026.
The EDDM expressed particular concern over an alleged revocation process involving a property in the Park Estate Extension Commercial Zone, which it said was allocated to Igwe and covered by a valid Certificate of Occupancy.
According to the group, the timing of the alleged revocation process requires urgent clarification from the state government.
The movement also alleged that an APC sensitisation rally was scheduled in Ezzagu on the same day Igwe was holding birthday activities at his country home.
While noting that the reported attendance at the rally should not be interpreted as evidence of any particular political position, the group said the circumstances warranted clarification in light of the subsequent property-related developments.
The EDDM further demanded transparency over the history of the EBSU Pocket Layout and the application of Ebonyi State Law 007 of 2021, which it said formed part of the legal and administrative framework under which the layout was considered and approved.
It called for the publication of relevant approvals, gazettes, minutes, advertisements, allocation documents and other records concerning the EBSU Pocket Layout and Plot 110, Park Estate.
The group also raised questions over the demolition of the property it identified as the “Six Billion Naira Plaza,” allegedly belonging to Igwe, demanding the release of the demolition order, acquisition documents, notices, compensation arrangements and statutory authority relied upon for the action.
The EDDM urged Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to clarify whether he authorised or approved any process seeking to revoke Igwe's property interests in Abakaliki.
It gave the state government 20 hours to address the issues publicly, including the reported revocation process, ownership history of Plot 110, the EBSU Pocket Layout, the circumstances surrounding the plaza's demolition and the statutory basis for any proposed acquisition or revocation.
The group said political disagreements should not become grounds for administrative retaliation, adding that it would consider lawful and peaceful avenues of protest and petition if satisfactory explanations were not provided.
It urged all parties to maintain peace and restraint, insisting that “the documents speak” and that public power should remain subject to the law and due process.
