Enugu Capital Territory Chairman, Uche Anya, escapes mob attack over alleged illegal demolition (VIDEO)
Does Government engage in land grabbing?
Attempt by the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority, ECTDA Chairman, Mr. Uche Anya to demolish the house of the late Justice Stanley Nnaji was resisted, on Thursday.
Late Justice Nnaji was assassinated by unknown gunmen at the Ebeano tunnel junction by Okpara Avenue in May 2021.
Daily Insider learnt that Justice Nnaji's house located along constitution road in GRA Enugu was officially monetized to him while he was a serving Judge of the Enugu State High Court and was never revoked by the government.
After the death of the former Judge, the family packed out from the house and gave it on rent and had looked after the house since then.
However, the Enugu Capital Territory Chairman on August 4th ordered his men to mark the house demolition without reason and on August 7th he moved bulldozers to the property for demolition.
The demolition had barely started before the family owners of the house arrived with security details where the chairman missed being lynched by a mob of angry people.
Eyewitness account said that when Anya was asked to produce a court order for the demolition he had none and was whisked out from the scene to the Enugu State Police command.
The Family of Late Justice Nnaji accused Anya of being a land grabber who thought he could be clever by half.
"They killed our father and now they want to come and take over his property. This matter will unravel who was responsible for the assassination of our father," a member of the family said.
The family source said that they will be suing Anya for trespass and malicious damage.
The Public Relations Officer of the ECTDA, Gideon Eze, could not be reached on his telephone for reaction of the agency.
