Members of the Greater Awgu Media Professionals (GAMP) at the weekend paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Dr. Martin Chukwunwike, where they conferred on him the title of “Pillar of Political Leadership” in Greater Awgu.

GAMP Chairman, Mr. Regis Anukwuoji, expressed gratitude to God and Governor Peter Mbah for Chukwunwike’s emergence as the state APC chairman, describing his extensive public service record as evidence of his capacity for leadership.

Anukwuoji noted that Chukwunwike, a former Commissioner for Health, former Commissioner for Housing and former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, had distinguished himself in various responsibilities entrusted to him.

He described Chukwunwike, as a son of Awgu Local Government Area, as a foremost political leader whose position should serve as a rallying point for the people of Greater Awgu.

The GAMP chairman also announced plans by the group to organise a Greater Awgu Economic Summit in November, aimed at providing a platform for sons and daughters of Awgu, Oji-River and Aninri to deliberate on the socio-economic, security and political development of the area.

He said the summit was being organised in conjunction with Greater Awgu Leadership Nigeria, Lagos, under the platform of the Greater Awgu Peoples Initiative (GAPI), and would bring together people from business, public service, academia and other sectors.

Anukwuoji presented Chukwunwike with a giant card and the “Pillar of Political Leadership” honour as a symbol of the group’s goodwill and prayers for his success.

Responding, Chukwunwike commended GAMP for its activities and described the proposed summit as a laudable initiative capable of helping the people fashion common solutions to challenges arising from their shared cultural and historical experiences.

He, however, advised the organisers to ensure that the summit was not turned into an “all-comers affair”, stressing the need to bring together people with genuine commitment to the objectives of the initiative.

The APC chairman pledged his support for initiatives aimed at advancing the interests of Greater Awgu and the development of Enugu State.

Chukwunwike also urged media professionals to maintain professionalism and non-partisanship in their reportage, particularly during elections.

He further advocated the continued observance of the rotational arrangement among the three senatorial districts in Enugu State, saying it had contributed to political stability and peace in the state.

The APC chairman commended Governor Mbah’s performance in office, urging the people to support him for continuity and the completion of ongoing development projects and programmes across the state.
