Ex-Enugu Assembly Leader, Ezeugwu, Decries Conduct of Party Primaries, declares for Rep

Former leader of Enugu State House of Assembly, Dr. Ikechukwu Ezeugwu, has criticized what he described as the “despicable” conduct of some political party primaries, saying that the trend undermines Nigeria’s democracy and sets a bad example for the youth.
Ezeugwu is also an aspirant for the House of Representatives under the Nigeria Democratic Congress, (NDC),
In a statement, on Monday, Ezeugwu said Nigerians, civil society organizations, and the international community were watching the conduct of political actors, adding that the display of dishonesty, deceit, “money is everything” mentality, hooliganism, and cultism must stop.
“How and when did we condescend this low? No shame, no fear of what the judgment will be. What are we teaching our children and generations yet unborn?” he asked.
Ezeugwu said he was raised with a strong sense of family values and recalled being warned at a family meeting in 2011 before entering partisan politics not to bring the family name into disrepute.
He said he pledged then to quit politics if it ever required him to live a dual personality.
He urged civil society groups to call out individuals whose actions, he said, were damaging to the youth and the polity. “If we can’t change the polity, let us leave it as we found it,” he stated.
The aspirant said he was running to “change the narrative” and called for collective effort to restore integrity to the political process. He added that justice, truth, peace, and love for one another must prevail in Nigeria’s political space.
