Finnish based auto pilot Chief, Simon Ekpa has been convicted to six years in prison in Finland.
The Finnish district court found Ekpa guilty of terrorism charges, he allegedly carried out in Nigeria through the social media.
The sentence marked the end of trial following his arrest on 21 November 2024 by the Finnish National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) into allegations of inciting terrorism and promoting violence through social media, activity that was believed to have contributed to unrest in southeastern Nigeria.
Ekpa was earlier remanded in custody by the Päijät-Häme District Court which has now determined that the charge was based on “public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent."
Ekpa’s assets were also frozen at some point as part of the investigations.
The court found out that Ekpa's offenses dated from August 2021 to November 2024.
In his absence, his Deputy, Ngozi Orabueze has been acting.
The Nigerian government also said at some point it was interested in repatriating Ekpa back to Nigeria.
