Hope returned to Umuezuboke, Umualor Community in Isi-Uzo local government area, on Saturday, as the Enugu State Emergency Management Agency distributed relief materials to internally displaced persons from Odobido and other affected villages.

The relief came following Governor Peter Mbah’s directive to resettle residents.

For nearly two years, at least seven hamlets stretching from Odobido Village to Igbogobe Village have been deserted due to a communal land dispute between Umuezuboke Umualor in Isi-Uzo LGA and Amankanu Community in Nkanu East LGA.

Though the conflict dates back to the 1960s, it escalated on December 15, 2024, when the community came under attack. Several persons sustained injuries, while seven men, including elderly residents, went missing and have not been found.

Since the attack, community leaders, Umualor stakeholders, and prominent Isi-Uzo indigenes have pushed for peaceful resolution and the safe return of displaced residents.

Responding to the appeals, Governor Mbah directed security agencies to take immediate measures to guarantee the safe resettlement of displaced residents of Odobido and other affected villages.

The directive has rekindled hope across Umuezuboke, Umualor, and Isi-Uzo LGA.

Speaking during the relief distribution, the member representing Isi-Uzo state constituency, Hon. Lebechi Eze, appreciated Governor Mbah for responding to the cries of his constituents.

Eze noted that Umualor has benefited from the administration through infrastructural development, empowerment programmes, and people-oriented policies. He assured that the community would continue to support the governor and reciprocate his commitment “through their unwavering support in the 2027 general elections.”

Residents of Umuezuboke, Umualor expressed gratitude, describing Mbah as “Our Peace Loving Governor” for the intervention aimed at ending nearly two years of displacement.
