Gov Mbah builds five bus terminals in Enugu and Nsukka, Tinubu Approves Six in Nigeria
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State will today, Thursday, commission five modern bus terminals his administration has built within two years in office.
The five bus terminals are located at Holy Ghost, Abakpa, Garriki and Nsukka.
The development came as the federal government of President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday approved the construction of modern bus terminals in each of Nigeria’s six geo-political zones at a total cost of ₦142,028,576,008.17.
Governor Mbah's strides in modern transportation infrastructure did not come easy as there were resistance by the affected property owners in the areas where the bus terminals are sited. But with resilience, Gov Mbah was able to pull through.
The State commissioner for Information, Dr Malachy Agbo announced that the Governor has invited the general public to the launch of the new modern transport system and the commissioning of the five new bus terminals built by his administration.
Agbo disclosed the Governor Mbah will also launch 100 out of the 200 Compressed Natural Gas, CNG, Buses his administration acquired to boost modern transportation in the state.
"These landmark events mark another giant leap in our journey towards sustainable, modern and efficient transportation infrastructure and service delivery in the state," Agbo said.
Meanwhile, at the federal level, the Tinubu administration said that contract has been awarded to Messrs Planet Project Limited for the six bus terminals to be sited in Abeokuta (South-West), Gombe (North-East), Kano (North-West), Lokoja (North-Central), Onitsha (South-East), and Ewu in Edo State (South-South).
The Federal government said that the absence of purpose-built bus terminals to serve millions of Nigerian commuters had contributed to increased crime, road traffic accidents, and the proliferation of arms and ammunition along the country’s highways.
