IKEM-UNO: Igwe Okey Ogbodo Marks 17th Anniversary, 7th Ofala
The ceremony will commence with seven traditional Gun salutes
His Royal Majesty, Igwe Engineer Okey Ogbodo will on Monday December begin a week long 7th Ofala festival, to mark his 17th anniversary on the throne as the Igwe of Ikem-Uno Autonomous Community in Isi-Uzo local government area of Enugu State.
The Ceremony, according to the press statement jointly signed by the chairman and secretary of the 7th Ofala planning committee, Chiefs Chuks Odoh and Victor Ngwu, will commence with seven traditional Gun salutes from each of the five clans of the community at 6am.
The traditional gun salute which will be first heard from Umuezutu clan which domiciles the oldest man in Ikem-Uno and proceeds accordingly will be followed with royal visitations to the palace by indigenes and guests with kegs of palm wine and other gifts.
The activities lined up for day-one will be officially declared open open after the Royal visits by His Royal Majesty ,Igwe Samuel Asadu (Igwe Ogadagidi), of Edem-Ani and Chairman of Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council.
Major highlights of the day-one activities include; youths’ football match among the clans and the formal handover of motorcycles donated by some illustrious sons of the community to the vigilante before the final match of the football competition at 4pm.
Day-two, as contained in the statement, will be marked with colloquium on security and community surveillance and drug abuse among youths while the day-three will be to celebrate the Igwe’s elevation to the chairman of Isi Uzo Local Government Traditional Rulers’ Council.
The day-four and five will be set aside for Sundry cabinet activities with the continuation of royal visits and the climax holding on Saturday, 3rd January, 2026 as the day of honour for outstanding sons, daughters and friends of the community.
