FCT Igbo Community Calls for Global Unity Ahead of 2027 Elections
The socio-cultural organization pointed to decades of historical hurdles and political marginalization tracing back to the 1967–1970 civil conflict
As Nigeria counts down to the 2027 general elections, the Igbo Community Association, Federal Capital Territory (ICA FCT)—representing over two million Igbo residents in the nation's capital—has issued a passionate appeal for solidarity, urging Ndigbo locally and in the diaspora to bridge internal divides and build formidable political alignment.
In an official statement released on Sunday, the socio-cultural organization pointed to decades of historical hurdles and political marginalization tracing back to the 1967–1970 civil conflict, arguing that fractionalization has consistently undermined the political weight and governance representation of the Igbo population.
The statement jointly signed by the President General of ICA FCT, Engr. (Nze) Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, and the Secretary General, Mazi Chinwoke Emmanuel Onah, the leadership underscored that the fast-approaching election season provides a critical turning point for Ndigbo to reclaim their stake in national affairs.
"The youths and future generations of Ndigbo cannot allow disunity to continuously erode our collective strength and political influence," the leadership stated. "A new dawn is upon us, and we must embrace it with courage, purpose, and total unity."
The Igbo Unity Campaign
To move from rhetoric to action, the ICA FCT has announced the rollout of the Igbo Unity Campaign, slated to officially launch on November 21, 2026.
The structured initiative is designed as a long-term platform aimed at:
Fostering deeper community engagement and grassroots solidarity.
Building strategic political alignment among residents in the FCT and across the global diaspora.
Combating voter apathy and strengthening civic participation heading into the 2027 polls.
The association has extended an open invitation to all Igbo socio-cultural networks, youth organizations, traditional elders, and leaders of thought to rally behind the movement to ensure its historic success.
