Igbo Etiti: Yam sellers' relocation not punitive --- Odo, Council Chair
The relocation is aimed at further developing the market
The chairman of Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, Dr. Eric Odo, has disclosed that the relocation of yam sellers in Ogbede market was not intended to witch-hunts anyone.
He also noted that the relocation is done in agreement with the traders, stressing that it was never a unilateral action by his government.
Odo stated this on Wednesday while reacting a protest embarked by traders in the market, who accused the council boss of forcefully relocating them.
They added that many of them lost their monies and goods in the process.
However reacting, the council chairman denied the allegations levelled against him, describing it as malicious and calculated attempt to tarnish his image.
He revealed that the relocation is aimed at further developing the market to make it more conducive for the commercial activities, which he hoped would improve the revenue of the council area.
According to him, his administration is committed to develop markets in the area in order to make Igbo-Etiti more viable for investors to come and invest.
