JUST IN: Peter Obi disowns Viral Claims of 45m Votes in ‘NDC Primary’

The Presidential aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr. Peter Obi has disowned a viral report purporting his victory in the party's presidential primary election that never held.

Obi Media Office dismissed the reports circulating online that claimed he received 45 million votes in a purported primary election organized by the NDC.

In a statement released, on Tuesday, the POMR spokesman, Ibrahim Umar, described the figures as “entirely false” and said no such primary took place.

“The attention of the Peter Obi Media Office has been drawn to certain 45m primary vote figures currently circulating on social media and various news platforms, purporting to be the breakdown of official results from an imaginary primary by the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, ascribed to Mr Peter Obi,” the statement said.

It added that no primary was conducted and no figures were generated from any process. The office urged the public, party supporters, and the media to disregard the statistics.

“Official and accurate information regarding Mr Peter Obi’s engagements and political processes will always be communicated through our verified and authorised channels and appropriately signed,” the statement read.

The media office accused those behind the claim of seeking to involve Peter Obi in fraudulent activity.
