MASSOB to IPOB: Sheathe Swords, ‘Supreme Leader’ Title Belongs to God Alone
MASSOB said such “market dancing emanated from their internal rancour and misunderstanding” and urged a return to unity for the “Biafra interest.”
The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has urged the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to end internal wrangling, warning that attacks and counter attacks are harmful to the Biafra self-determination struggle.
In a press statement issued by its National Director of Information, Comrade Edeson Samuel, MASSOB said it was wading into IPOB’s affairs because Biafra was involved.
“Ordinarily, MASSOB would not have indulged in internal affair of another organization but because Biafra was involved, we are automatically magneted,” the statement signed by Comrade Uchenna Madu, MASSOB leader, read.
The group described IPOB as “a big household name and service to the people of Biafra” and called for peace within its leadership.
“Stop insulting and defacing its name. MASSOB calls for peace and Biafran understanding in the leadership of IPOB as a big family, sheathe your sword and work for peaceful resolution of all internal rancour.”
MASSOB also restated its stance on Biafra leadership titles, rejecting the use of “Supreme Leader.”
“There is no official leadership title or attribute called ‘Supreme Leader’ in Biafra land. “The leadership title called Supreme is an attribute that belongs to God Almighty only. Any attempt or connivance or consenting to assume the Supreme leadership title is a direct challenge to God Almighty.”
The group recalled that on June 29, 2017, pro-Biafra organizations under the Biafra People National Council, which included MASSOB, declared Mazi Nnamdi Kanu “arrowhead of Biafra struggle.”
“We did not crown him Supreme leader,” MASSOB stressed.
The statement comes amid public disputes within IPOB’s ranks. MASSOB said such “market dancing emanated from their internal rancour and misunderstanding” and urged a return to unity for the “Biafra interest.”
