Made-in-Nigeria: Anambra SSG Explains State’s Link to Alleged Fake Federal Agency

The Anambra State Government has clarified its dealings with the purported Made-in-Nigeria agency currently under investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), saying the state engaged with the organisation in the belief that it was a legitimate Federal Government initiative.

Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Chiamaka Nnake, gave the clarification in a statement issued on Saturday amid questions over her involvement with the organisation, which the ICPC has identified as an alleged fake Federal Government entity.

According to Nnake, her involvement began after Governor Chukwuma Soludo received a letter in January 2026 requesting that Anambra State nominate a focal person for the organisation.

She said the correspondence presented the organisation as an office operating under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), giving the state no immediate reason to suspect that it was unauthorised.

Following the request, Governor Soludo nominated Nnake as Anambra’s focal person in February 2026.

How the State Became Involved

Nnake explained that officials nominated by different states subsequently communicated through a WhatsApp group, where issues relating to the organisation’s programmes and activities were discussed.

She stressed that her participation was restricted to the duties assigned to her by the Anambra State Government and that she acted based on the official information and correspondence available to her at the time.

The matter gained further prominence when the organisation approached the Anambra State Government with a proposal to host the South-East Made-in-Nigeria Fair.

The proposal was approved by the state, following which preparations for the event commenced.

Nnake said an inaugural meeting was held about two weeks ago and was attended by the organisation’s national coordinator. A state committee was subsequently constituted to begin preparations for the proposed fair, scheduled to hold from December 2 to 5, 2026.

SSG Distances Herself From Other Activities

The SSG, however, said she had no knowledge of, or involvement in, activities outside the official communications and assignments that were brought to her attention.

She said her clarification was necessary to define the extent of her involvement and to ensure that activities allegedly linked to the organisation but unknown to her were not wrongly attributed to her or the Anambra State Government.

Her explanation comes against the backdrop of an ongoing ICPC investigation into the purported agency, which allegedly operated and presented itself as a Federal Government initiative without the necessary authorisation.

The investigation has raised questions about how the organisation was able to establish contacts and relationships with government officials and institutions in different parts of the country.

For Anambra State, Nnake’s account indicates that its engagement with the organisation was based on the understanding that it was an official Federal Government body, particularly because of the correspondence received and the organisation’s claimed affiliation with the OSGF.

The development is expected to bring increased scrutiny to the organisation’s communications with state governments, as well as the officials and institutions that interacted with it before the ICPC commenced its investigation.
