Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, will on Tuesday commission a number of projects executed by the Chairman of Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, Mr Obiora Obeagu, as part of activities marking the end of his administration.

The governor’s visit forms part of the chairman’s valedictory programme, providing an opportunity to showcase some of the projects and interventions executed by the Obeagu administration across communities in the local government area.

Among the major projects expected to be commissioned are the long-span bridge across the Ebenyi River at Mgbuji, Eha-Amufu; the remodelled and redesigned Isi-Uzo Local Government Secretariat in Ikem; electricity projects in Neke and other communities, as well as road and other community development projects.

Tuesday’s visit is also expected to provide an opportunity for Governor Mbah to address some of the major road challenges confronting communities in Isi-Uzo.

The governor may likely make pronouncements on the deplorable condition of the Eha-Amufu-Ikem Road, Eha-Amufu-Umualor Road and Neke-Mbu-Eha-Alumona Road, which have continued to generate concerns among residents and motorists.

The expected intervention would be significant to residents, farmers and businesses in the affected communities, particularly because of the roads’ importance to movement, access to farmlands and economic activities across Isi-Uzo Local Government Area.

The local government secretariat was redesigned by Obeagu in 2024 to provide additional office spaces and an events hall. The chairman’s lodge was also renovated, while the headquarters clinic was upgraded and equipped with an ambulance. The entire secretariat complex was also asphalted.

Obeagu had earlier disclosed that his administration embarked on electricity projects worth more than N210 million in Umualor, Ihenyi and Neke communities to boost economic activities.

He said more than four transformers had been installed, alongside solar-powered street lights under the council’s “Light Up Isi-Uzo” initiative.

In road infrastructure, the chairman said the council constructed about two kilometres of roads in Eha-Amufu, including a concrete-span bridge, while the long-span bridge across the Ebenyi River at Mgbuji remained one of the major projects of his administration.

Obeagu had also pushed for the rehabilitation of the Nkalagu-Nsukka Federal Road, disclosing that Governor Mbah personally inspected the road and assured the people of government intervention.

According to him, engagements with the Federal Ministry of Works also led to the commencement of work on the Ebenyi-Umuhu Bridge in Eha-Amufu before construction was subsequently stalled.

He expressed optimism that the planned intervention by the state government and renewed federal action would eventually address the longstanding challenges affecting the road.

The chairman further listed interventions in education and agriculture, including bursaries and financial assistance to indigent students, distribution of farm inputs to farmers, and palliative programmes for widows and other vulnerable residents.

On security, Obeagu recalled the persistent attacks suffered by communities in Eha-Amufu before the intervention of the present state administration.

He said the state government deployed about 100 combined security personnel to Ogbete Mgbuji and provided operational vehicles, motorcycles, surveillance equipment and four drones for forest monitoring.

He added that 122 local security personnel had been recruited to strengthen intelligence gathering in buffer communities, while the council spends about N5 million monthly to support security personnel stationed along the Ugwogo-Neke and Eha-Amufu-Nkalagu roads.
