Media Team Accuses APC Of Targeting Obi, Kwankwaso To Divert Attention From Governance Failures
Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso

The Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of launching a coordinated campaign to discredit the NDC presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, saying that the party is more focused on attacking the opposition than addressing Nigeria’s worsening economic and security challenges.

In a statement issued on Friday, authored by POMR Spokesman, Idris Zekeri Jnr, the group alleged there is an unofficial directive within the ruling APC instructing members, especially top political appointees, to focus on undermining Obi and Kwankwaso to secure favour within President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“Attacking Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso personally has become a common tactic for politicians seeking to gain favour and secure favourable positions within President Bola Tinubu's administration,” the statement read.

Political posturing over governance:

POMR said instead of showcasing achievements to Nigerians and justifying why they deserve another term, APC appointees have prioritized “political posturing over governance.”

The group cited growing insecurity, deteriorating public schools and healthcare facilities, and the rising cost of living as evidence of neglect. It also referenced a recent UN-World Food Programme (WFP) warning that over *17 million people in northern Nigeria face catastrophic hunger*, saying APC governments at federal, state and local levels in the nine northern states have not taken any proactive action; instead, they are fixated on the opposition.

“Trying to use Peter Obi or Rabiu Kwankwaso as a political scapegoat will not lead to improved living standards for citizens, nor will it enhance security in the country. The Nigerian populace recognises this distraction for what it is: cheap diversionary blackmail to distract the public from their obvious failure.”

Call for accountability

The group urged the ruling class to remember that their primary allegiance lies with the Nigerian people, not with a campaign of political subservience.

It also called on President Tinubu to evaluate appointees based on their tangible performance and achievements in office, rather than the intensity of their attacks on opposition figures.

POMR stated that Obi remains dedicated to advocating for a better Nigeria, and no amount of orchestrated smear campaigns will divert the public's attention from demanding accountability from those currently in power.
