A major stakeholder in Enugu North Senatorial District and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Matthew Agu, has declared that the people of the zone will vote massively for Governor Peter Mbah in the 2027 governorship election to secure his re-election for a second term.

Agu, who hails from Obollo-Afor in Udenu Local Government Area, made the declaration on Wednesday while speaking with journalists in Enugu.

He said Governor Mbah had worked hard enough to earn the support of the people, stressing that his administration's projects and programmes would speak for him at the polls.

According to him, the governor's performance across key sectors, including education, healthcare, road infrastructure, transportation and agriculture, has demonstrated his commitment to the development of the state.

“Governor Mbah has worked hard to justify a second term. His works will campaign for him,” Agu said.

Enugu North Senatorial District comprises six local government areas — Nsukka, Udenu, Igboeze North, Igboeze South, Igbo-Etiti and Uzo-Uwani — and constitutes a significant part of the state's electorate.

Agu said stakeholders and residents of the district would give Mbah their maximum support to enable him complete the programmes and projects initiated by his administration.

He argued that previous governors of the state since the return to democratic rule in 1999 had served two constitutionally permitted four-year terms, describing the completion of Mbah's second term as important to continuity and stability in the state.

“Nsukka people will support Governor Mbah. He must complete his second term in office. Others before him, who governed the state since 1999, served their constitutionally guaranteed two terms of four years each.

“So, Governor Mbah must complete the good works he has started,” he said.

The APC chieftain also spoke in favour of the state's established power-rotation arrangement among the three senatorial districts, arguing that Mbah's full second term would preserve the principle.

He dismissed suggestions that the governor should serve only one term, describing promises of a one-term administration by some guber candidates as insincere.

“Anybody coming to promise one term is not being sincere. It is a deceitful promise. We, the stakeholders in Enugu North Senatorial District, will work to deliver the governor for a second term,” Agu said.

He maintained that supporting the governor's re-election would provide continuity for ongoing development initiatives and help sustain what he described as the administration's development trajectory.

“Governor Mbah has done a lot in terms of massive development across all sectors, including education, health, roads and infrastructure, transportation and agriculture.

“We need to support him to complete his second term for stability and sustainability of the polity,” he added.
