Nwokabia denies soliciting fund for ADC Enugu membership cards, e-registration
Dr. John Nwokabia

The 2023 deputy governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Enugu state, now a stalwart of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denied asking stakeholders in Enugu West Senatorial district for money to procure party membership cards and for e-registration of members i1n the area.

Some ADC leaders in Enugu West zone had alleged with evidence of a message purportedly from Nwokabia soliciting fund for the party registration.

The ADC in Enugu state was subsequently agitated over what the party members alleged was attempt to dupe members, using a private bank account for purported purchase of membership cards from Abuja.

Nwokabia was accused of soliciting N20 million to execute the e-registration exercise using his personal bank account instead of the party's official Bank account.

All efforts to get Nwokabia speak on the matter failed, but his close confidant, who insisted on being anonymous, denied the development, stating that the circulating message purported to had emanated from the ADC stalwart is fake.

In the message, which went viral on the Internet, asking members for contributions, Nwokabia allegedly wrote: "I want to inform you that our Enugu West has been mandated to bring N20M by the National party of ADC for payment of membership cards and online registration. Each local government is required to provide N4M before their cards can be given to them. Your kind support is hereby solicited. Please make your payment for support of procuring our own membership cards from Abuja to the following account."

A private account number of Nwokabia was subsequently provided for the payment.

Reacting to the development, the Enugu state chairman of ADC, Mrs. Stella Chukwuma raised the alarm that the party's attention was drawn to the a circulating account number

allegedly belonging to John Nwokabia purportedly for party activities.

The ADC state Secretary, Anyanwu Prince Izunna who issued a statement on the matter said that, "The State working committee and state party excos wish to state categorically that John Nwokabia is not authorized to use his account for any financial transactions in the name of ADC Enugu State Chapter.

"The party has its official account, and all contributions and payments should be made through this channel. We disclaim any responsibility for any transaction made into this account, and we

advise the general public to disregard any such requests."

The party leadership went further to provide the party's official bank account number for financial contributions by members.

"We urge all members and stakeholders to be vigilant and only use the official party account for any financial transactions. Let all the party faithful and members of ADC support the party through the right channel for recognition by the party," the party directed.
