Obi, other NDC 2027 candidates emerge today as party conducts all primary elections

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, will today affirm Frontline Presidential aspirant, Mr. Peter Obi as its candidate for the 2027 election, after he emerged as the sole aspirant for the ticket.

NDC National Chairman Moses Cleopas said that the party will also conduct primaries for governorship, National Assembly and state Assembly seats across the 36 states and FCT, despite logistical disruptions from the Eid-el-Kabir holidays.

Cleopas blamed flight shortages and transportation challenges for delays after the Abuja screening, noting that many aspirants and screening team members were stranded in the capital.

May 28 was set aside for arrivals, documentation with INEC and security agencies, and consultative meetings with stakeholders. He warned that no police, DSS or INEC officials should take part in those activities, saying any deviation would be “illegal and unauthorised”.

The May 29 primaries will proceed in this order: presidential affirmation, National Assembly primaries or affirmations, state Assembly primaries or affirmations, then governorship primaries or affirmations.

State teams must collate and forward results to the national headquarters, where only the National Working Committee will announce them. “No state executive or team has the mandate to announce any results,” Cleopas said.

He also urged members and aspirants to remain peaceful and orderly, stressing that the party would not tolerate violence or hooliganism during the exercise.
