Oscar Ossai Hails INEC for Including NDC on Enugu North Bye-Election Ballot
Ossai disclosed that he spent time at INEC headquarters on Friday night to resolve issues surrounding his candidacy.
The Enugu North Senatorial bye-election candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Bishop Oscar Okwudili Ossai, has described the Independent National Electoral Commission’s decision to include his name and party on the ballot as a victory for democracy and the will of the people.
Speaking to journalists at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, on Saturday, Ossai said INEC’s action reflected equity, justice, and fairness.
“Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) remains committed to ensuring that the voices of the people are heard and that every eligible candidate is given a fair opportunity to serve the people,” he said.
Ossai disclosed that he spent time at INEC headquarters on Friday night to resolve issues surrounding his candidacy.
“Yesterday, up to 11pm, I was at INEC headquarters sorting out issues with them. I’m happy to tell you that I have been cleared and my name has been included on ballot box for the bye-election holding on June 20. I am confident that I will be Enugu North Senatorial Senator on June 20, this year,” he said.
The NDC candidate allayed concerns that the delay in including his name and party might affect his campaign preparations. He appealed to supporters and voters not to be discouraged by the late development.
“I appeal to my supporters and indeed the electorate not to be disillusioned or worried by the late inclusion of my name on the ballot box. We are going to be victorious at the poll,” Ossai said.
The Enugu North Senatorial bye-election is scheduled for June 20, 2025.
