Outrage as Man murders girlfriend in Edjeba, Delta community

Residents of Edjeba, Warri South LGA, are reeling after the killing of a young woman who had traveled from Abuja to visit her boyfriend.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday on Ajidi Street. Community members said the victim was in a long-distance relationship with the suspect and often visited his residence. She was seen Monday afternoon in the neighborhood, reportedly preparing a meal.

On Tuesday morning, screams from the apartment prompted the landlord to contact police. Officers who responded found the woman dead. The suspect was arrested at the scene.

The killing has sparked outrage in Edjeba and on Nigerian social media, with residents demanding a thorough investigation. “This has left many in the community traumatized,” one resident said.

SP Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State, confirmed that the suspect is in custody and an investigation is underway. He said the victim’s body has been deposited at a mortuary pending autopsy, and that detectives are examining digital records and phone logs to establish the circumstances.

The case has renewed calls for attention to domestic violence and relationship safety in the area.
