PDP begins membership e-registration in Enugu

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Wednesday, commenced online registration of its members in Enugu state.

Chairman of the Party in the state, Hon Steve Oruruo who spoke with newsmen during the training of registrars for the exercise from the 260 wards in the state, said that the e-registration is in compliance with the new electoral guideline.

Oruruo said that Enugu is a PDP dominated state, which he said, would be translated at the end of the registration exercise.

"Talk is cheap, but the reality check is that our people will be captured in their numbers," Oruruo said.

He dismissed claims of opposition within the PDP, which alluded to have conducted exercises in the state, stating that the court of appeal judgment on the party crisis is clear enough to wish away factional claims.

"The appeal court judgment was very clear, that suspended all the gladiators on their side; including Anyanwu, Bature and all of them. So if you were suspended and suspension was sustained at the appeal court, a suspension that came even before the Ibadan convention. So upon what did you create committees at state levels? So they acted ultra vires (beyond their powers)."

He dismissed fears that the PDP maybe deregistered, noting that the online registration is a process to ensuring compliance to demands of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from political parties.

Oruruo described commotion makers in the PDP as "hirelings trying to hijack powers for the All Progressives Congress, APC," stating that the PDP wants peace, dialogue and compromise which it's negotiation is still ongoing.

"But whether we get settlement or not, we will continue in the supreme Court because we cannot allow our Party to die in the hands of mere traducers of the party. It is not in best interest of Nigerians.

"PDP is getting it right with the speed that can qualify it to have candidates in this very coming elections. The main mission of the opponents is to ensure that PDP does not have candidates anywhere. The sponsors are known all over the nation. Whoever is in charge in the country, everybody knows him," Oruruo said.
