Police Arrest Bayelsa Man Linked to Gun Used in Oghenemine’s Killing by Delta Police Officer
The suspects were brought into the Effurun Area Command on Wednesday night as investigations widen into the movement of the weapon and the circumstances surrounding Ogidi’s death
Police in Delta State have arrested two suspects, including the Bayelsa man alleged to have sent the pistol and ammunition used in the killing of 28-year-old Oghenemine Ogidi by ASP Nuhu Usman in Effurun.
According to a source, the suspects were brought into the Effurun Area Command on Wednesday night as investigations widen into the movement of the weapon and the circumstances surrounding Ogidi’s death.
While the Delta State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement, the source told _Vanguard_ that one of the arrested men is believed to have dispatched the barretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition via a transport service from Yenagoa to Effurun.
Ogidi reportedly picked up the parcel at the Effurun Motor Park to deliver it to an owner in Sapele when he was intercepted and fatally shot by ASP Nuhu and others.
“It’s not been announced who is who yet, but one of them is the person who sent the gun from Yenagoa to Effurun,” the source said. “The trail continues for other suspects. It’s also not clear if the second person is the driver who brought the parcel from Yenagoa.”
Ogidi’s killing has sparked outrage, with accusations that he was extrajudicially executed after being caught with the firearm. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend all individuals connected to the supply chain and the incident.
