Protest over 'sale' of Enugu Airport grounds Akanu Ibiam airport
Daily Insider gathered that the industrial action was ordered by the national offices of the aviation workers in Abuja and Lagos
Following the exposed concessioning of Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu, protesting aviation workers have shut down activities in the airport, on Friday.
Daily Insider gathered that the industrial action was ordered by the national offices of the aviation workers in Abuja and Lagos.
The protest followed the bringing to light the concessioning of the Airport by the federal Government.
The worker alleged the Airport was concessionned to a South-East Governor and an Anambra top business man without taking into consideration the welfare of the workers.
“All we know is that they said full concessioning will come into effect in two years’ time.
“But nothing was said about the future of the workers when the new owners take over.
“Aviation unions have made several efforts to engage them, including one of the South-East governors and a popular billionaire investor from Anambra State, but they are not forthcoming on their plans for the workers.
“So, this morning, the workers received a directive from the national offices of the aviation unions to shut down the flight operations; that’s exactly what is happening,” one of the aviation workers said.
As of the time of filing this report, all the passengers have been chased outside of the waiting lounge, leaving them stranded.
Enugu bound flights from Abuja and Lagos have also been shelved, a source also told our correspondent.
