We paid delegates at convention - Enugu APC refutes media allegations

The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Chief Uche Obute, has refuted several reported allegations against the party in the state.

One of such allegations was that the party didn't pay the state delegates that went to the National convention of the party at Abuja.

Obute however said that such reports were false and fabricated, including the allegation that old members of the APC were leaving the party in droves because of discrimination against them by the new joiners of the APC from the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP).

Obute dismissed reports of an internal crisis and alleged mass resignations within its ranks, describing them as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to discredit the party.

The party insisted that the claims contained in the reports do not reflect the true situation in the state chapter, insisting they are “mischievous and misleading.” 

“The report alleging nonpayment of stipends to delegates at the recent national convention is an outright falsehood, a deliberate distortion of facts, and a figment of the writer’s imagination. It is clearly a concocted story built on anonymous sources whose credibility cannot be ascertained,” the statement read.

It further maintained that there was no agitation among delegates, adding that the report was aimed at creating unnecessary tension within the party.

"The APC in Enugu State wishes to state categorically that there is no such crisis, nor has there been any agitation of the nature described. The publication is nothing but a failed attempt to sow seeds of discord and distract the party in its move to produce the highest votes in the 2027 elections in the state,” the party said.

On the issue of alleged mass resignation of members, the APC also dismissed the claim, describing it as unfounded and misleading.

The party insisted that it remains united and inclusive, noting that both old and new members are fully integrated into its structure across all levels.

“Contrary to the false narrative being peddled, the truth remains that members of the party in Enugu State are united. Both the old and new blocs are fully accommodated at all levels of party leadership—from the wards to the local government areas and the state structure,” it said.

It also pointed to what it described as evidence of inclusiveness in the party’s leadership arrangements, highlighting positions held by members across different blocs.

“Notably, key positions zoned to Enugu State by the South-East chapter of our party, including the Zonal Woman Leader (South East) held by Dr. Oby Ajih and the Deputy National Chairman (South) held by Dr. Ben Nwoye, are occupied by members of the old APC bloc, clearly puts any claim of exclusion in their place,” the statement noted.

The APC further reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of the state chairman, Dr Martin Chukwunweike, stating that the party remains focused and committed to strengthening its presence in the state.

“Under the able leadership of the state Chairman, APC in Enugu State remains united, focused, and committed to delivering good governance and consolidating its growing dominance in the state. No amount of propaganda or sponsored misinformation can derail the steady progress being made,” the party stated.

The statement urged members of the public and party faithful to disregard the reports, insisting that they were aimed at misleading the public and undermining the party’s cohesion.
