What Has Tinubu Achieved with Procured Victory? Obi’s Camp Fires Back at Alake
The APC had earlier criticized Peter Obi over his repeated assertions that he won the 2023 poll, labeling the claims a "troubling display of delusion"
The Peter Obi Media Office (POMR) has hit back at Mr. Dele Alake and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, challenging them to shift focus from political arguments and account for what President Bola Tinubu has achieved since assuming office.
The fiery response, issued by POMR Spokesman Idris Zekeri Jnr, follows recent sharp exchanges between the ruling party and the opposition camp regarding the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.
The APC had earlier criticized Peter Obi over his repeated assertions that he won the 2023 poll, labeling the claims a "troubling display of delusion" and challenging Obi's governance record in Anambra State.
In its counter-statement, the Peter Obi Media Office argued that the ruling party was obsessing over legal victories while ordinary citizens bore the brunt of harsh economic realities.
"What significance does an electoral victory have if it fails to bring meaningful improvements to the lives of the people?" the statement queried. "Winning an election is not an objective in itself; it confers a responsibility to govern effectively and enhance citizens’ welfare."
Key Points from the Obi Media Office Statement:
Focus on Governance Outcomes: The media office acknowledged that the courts had legally affirmed President Tinubu’s victory, but stressed that a legal triumph does not equate to successful governance or exempt an administration from public accountability.
Hardship vs. Rhetoric: POMR challenged the administration to show what the "appropriated victory" has delivered beyond escalating economic hardship, rising living costs, worsening poverty, and heightened insecurity.
Demand for Accountability: Instead of attacking opposition figures like Peter Obi, the camp urged Alake to answer burning questions regarding the whereabouts of the promised economic prosperity, security, and affordability.
Citizen Disconnect: The statement maintained that Nigerians have little patience for endless political bickering while their purchasing power dwindles and daily survival becomes increasingly difficult.
Concluding the address, the Obi Media Office emphasized that political victory must be measured by tangible improvements in homes, workplaces, and communities rather than celebrations at the polls, calling on the government to prioritize concrete results over political point-scoring.
