The reinstated Governor of Rivers state, Siminalayi Fubara, failed to show up in the office in Port Harcourt, on Thursday, after he was brought back because the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, is still calling the shots, insisting that he must control the affairs of the state.
Even though Wike has washed his hands off the allegation, Insider source maintained that Wike in still talking tough, insisting that he must produce the Chief of Staff and Secretary to the State Government (SSG) for peace to reign in the state.
Nevertheless, Governor Fubara is expected to resume in Port Harcourt today (Friday) and is also expected to make a broadcast too the people of Rivers State.
Thousands of supporters, including women, youths, and admirers of Governor Fubara, had thronged the major streets of Port Harcourt, chanting songs and marching in anticipation of his return, but were disappointed after he failed to appear.
Fubara’s aide, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the Governor was in Abuja but would resume work on Friday.
He said, “The governor is in Abuja. He will be coming to Port Harcourt to resume work on Friday. That is all I can say for now.”
Wike, while speaking on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ programme, on Thursday dismissed the allegations of interference, insisting he would not interfere with Fubara’s administration.
He said, “I cannot go and impose anything on the governor. Why would I impose anything on the governor? Assuming I go to the governor and say, ‘I want this,’ will the state collapse? I will not. I have no candidate, and I will not.”
