The MainPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited, MEDL, the subsidiary of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, has disclosed there is blackout in most parts of Enugu Metropolis since October 1st 2025.

According to the company, the reason for the blackout is for the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, carry out essential maintenance works on its facilities.

The Head of Communications at MEDL, Emeka Ezeh, in a statement said the outage, scheduled to last from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., is to allow the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, carry out essential maintenance works on its facilities but as at 11:30pm on the Independence day, power was not yet restored in the coal City.

MEDL announced that the exercise will affect several 33KV feeders and lines, including Kingsway (Lines 1 & 2), Emene Industrial (Lines 1 & 2), Ugwuogo, Thinkers Corner, Trans Ekulu, Ituku Ozalla, and Government House.

Ezeh listed the areas expected to be impacted to include the entire Abakpa District, 9th Mile and surrounding communities, Government House and environs, Shoprite Axis, Golf Estate, Zoo Estate, Okpara Avenue, Kingsway Area, Abakaliki Road, CBN Quarters, Railway Quarters, Artisan, Ngwo, Coal Camp, Ologo Quarters, Uwani, Asata, Golden Royale, and Iva Valley.

According to him, the company expressed regret over the inconvenience the development may cause and assured that electricity supply would be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed.

Ezeh reaffirmed the company’s commitment to providing improved and reliable services to its customers.
