2027: Obi, Kwankwaso Mobilise Candidates for Nationwide Push

The presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has hosted the party’s vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside gubernatorial, senatorial and other candidates at the Obidient Headquarters in Abuja, as the party steps up preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The meeting, which brought together candidates from different parts of the country, focused on strengthening the NDC’s political structure and expanding its presence beyond major cities into rural communities and the hinterlands.

Obi, who disclosed the meeting in a post on his X handle on Tuesday, said the gathering was part of a broader strategy to take the party’s message directly to Nigerians at the grassroots.

According to the former Anambra State governor, he reassured the candidates of his continued support and pledged to work closely with them to build a formidable political structure capable of delivering electoral victory for the NDC in 2027.

He said his political partnership with Kwankwaso was anchored on a shared determination to rescue Nigeria from what he described as “calamitous and ineffective leadership” and redirect the country towards sustainable development.

“Our commitment is to commence lifting vulnerable Nigerians out of poverty, reduce the number of out-of-school children, support small and medium-sized businesses, secure our nation, unite our people, and move Nigeria from consumption to production,” Obi stated.

The NDC presidential candidate said the party would intensify its grassroots engagement, particularly in communities that, according to him, had remained disconnected from national political conversations.

He stressed that the party’s ambition went beyond winning elections, saying its ultimate goal was to establish a political platform capable of translating electoral victory into tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians.

Obi: Leadership Failure, Not Nigeria, Is the Problem

The Abuja meeting came a day after Obi spoke at Koinonia Global, led by Apostle Joshua Selman, where he attributed many of Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges to what he described as years of poor leadership.

Obi maintained that Nigeria was not inherently incapable of development, arguing that the country’s greatest problem was the quality of leadership it had experienced over the years.

“I believe that people like you are the ones keeping our country. The only thing I can ask all of you who are gathered here, because I know he’s praying for the country, is that you remember us, the politicians, in your prayers,” he said.

The latest engagement between Obi, Kwankwaso and the NDC candidates signals an intensifying effort by the party to consolidate its nationwide political machinery, deepen grassroots mobilisation and position itself as a major force ahead of the 2027 presidential and general elections.
