AI-Generated Actress Tilly Norwood Lands Lead Role in Feature Film ‘Misaligned’
AI can support premium narrative filmmaking, but only with substantial amounts of human craft, skill, judgement and time
Virtual actress Tilly Norwood is set to headline her first feature film, despite skepticism from Hollywood over AI performers.
Particle 6, the studio behind Norwood, announced Monday it will produce “Misaligned,” a feature-length movie built entirely with artificial intelligence and starring the AI actress who debuted in fall 2025. The project marks Norwood’s first casting since her launch.
While AI will generate the film, Particle 6 said human writers, technicians, and actors will guide the process.
“AI can support premium narrative filmmaking, but only with substantial amounts of human craft, skill, judgement and time. That’s not a limitation of the technology. That’s the point,” said Particle 6 CEO and founder Eline van der Velden.
She added: “The filmmakers who thrive in the next decade will be the ones who bring decades of storytelling instinct to these new tools, and ‘Misaligned’ is where we put that to work at feature scale.”
The title “Misaligned” references the challenge of aligning AI with human values and goals, a theme at the center of current debates on the technology’s role in creative industries.
The move comes as Hollywood unions and actors including Scarlett Johansson and Cate Blanchett continue to call for restrictions on using AI and generative tools on copyrighted work without consent.
A Particle 6 spokesperson told AFP it is too early to discuss distribution plans or a release date for “Misaligned,” including whether it will head to theaters or streaming.
