Enugu Patriots mount Pressure on Gov Peter Mbah to quit PDP
2027 Enugu elections begin to form shape
As the fortunes of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, continue to dwindle at its national and state levels, a group of Enugu State political stakeholders, the Enugu State Patriots, have asked Governor Peter Mbah to quickly take a decision on if he will continue to adopt the PDP as his vehicle for the 2027 general elections.
The group said said that the PDP has not shown fidelity with Governor Mbah's administration, particularly with its rejection of Mr. Sunday Ude-Okoye as it's National Secretary and it's afraid if the party as it's presently led could even allow Gov Mbah run for his second term with the party platform.
They stated that Governor Mbah has done so well that he deserves a second term and are not ready to risk gambling with Mbah's second term in office, hence the Governor should quickly give them a direction on where to go.
In a communique after it's meeting in Enugu, on Sunday, the group said that "with Governor Peter Mbah’s exceptional performance, he has become a viable political party of his own. He is the political party we know and wherever he leads, Ndi Enugu will follow."
In the meeting included the outstayed National Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Sunday Ude-Okoye, present and past local government council chairmen, former commissioners, and many other politicians in the state.
Among those who spoke at the meeting include Nsukka local government chairman, Engr Asogwa, former Nkanu West local government chairman, Henry Okenwa; CEO of Tossscan hotel, former local government council chairmen of Igbo Eze North, Bonaventure Onu, among others.
They said, "We are happy to unequivocally state that Governor Mbah has shone like a million stars and established himself as a poster boy of people-oriented governance at the subnational level.
“With about 2,000 ongoing and completed projects across the state and across sectors, he has stamped his authority as a man, who came prepared to the business of governance.
“Importantly, even the President, the Vice President, and federal ministers, who are of a different party have variously confessed the unprecedented massive achievements of Governor Mbah in just two years.”
The group, while acknowledging Enugu State and South East’s longstanding relationship with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since 1998, however said that “the people of Enugu State were more interested in “his vision to grow the state’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion in eight, which is on course, than in political affiliations.
“During this period, the region and Ndi Enugu have given the PDP their total support and have equally derived some benefits from the party in terms of development projects and political opportunities.
“Nevertheless, we make bold to say that with Governor Peter Mbah’s exceptional performance, he has become a viable political party of his own. He is the political party we know and wherever he leads, Ndi Enugu will follow.
“Therefore, there is no doubt that his second term as Governor of Enugu State is sacrosanct, by God’s grace, in order to continue with the great job, he is doing."
