There has been excitement since the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the name of Dr. Ugo Magnus Kel as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Ebonyi Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general election.

The publication officially confirms Dr. Kel's participation in the race to represent the district, which comprises Ezza North, Ezza South, Ikwo and Ishielu Local Government Areas, in the Senate.

Following the release of the candidates' list by the electoral body, Dr. Kel unveiled his policy document titled "The Ebonyi Central Renewal Agenda," describing it as a comprehensive blueprint for quality representation, people-centred legislation, effective oversight and sustainable development across the senatorial district.

According to the ADC candidate, the document goes beyond a political manifesto and represents "a covenant" with the people of Ebonyi Central, anchored on the principles of service, accountability, transparency and shared prosperity.

In the foreword of the agenda, Dr. Kel said Ebonyi Central is endowed with fertile land, industrious people, talented youths, resilient women and significant economic potential, but lamented that the district has remained underserved despite its contributions to the development of Ebonyi State and the country.

He argued that the district's challenge has not been a lack of talent or resources but the absence of purposeful, transparent and people-focused representation.

The senatorial hopeful pledged that, if elected, he would use his office to ensure the district receives a fair share of federal opportunities, attract development projects, create employment opportunities for young people, empower women and farmers, improve education and healthcare, deliver critical infrastructure and uphold transparency in the management of public resources.

Dr. Kel also promised to maintain regular engagement with constituents, stressing that public office is a sacred trust that must be exercised with integrity, accountability and measurable results.

"My mission is simple: to ensure that Ebonyi Central receives its fair share of federal opportunities; attract meaningful development; create jobs for our youths; empower women and farmers; improve education and healthcare; deliver critical infrastructure; and uphold transparency in every kobo entrusted to my office," he stated.

He further assured the people that his representation would be accessible and responsive, adding that every community in the district deserves equal attention and opportunities for growth.

The Ebonyi Central Renewal Agenda outlines Dr. Kel's vision of building a district where communities benefit from inclusive development, youths have greater economic opportunities, farmers receive the support they need to boost agricultural productivity, women are empowered and families enjoy improved living standards.

With INEC's publication of his candidacy, political activities in the Ebonyi Central Senatorial District are expected to gather momentum as parties and candidates intensify preparations for the 2027 general election.
