Center for memories brings back 'Things Fall Apart' in Enugu Festival
The Center Memories, an Igbo-centric institution for the preservation of Igbo heritage, has slated dates for Things Fall Apart Festival 2025.
Things Fall Apart, a famed fiction of Igbo lifestyle, tradition and culture was written by cerebral author, Chinua Achebe in 1958. The novel is considered a landmark in African literature, depicting the life of Okonkwo, a warrior and leader in the Igbo clan of Umuofia, and highlighting the tensions between tradition and colonial influences.
It's widely regarded as one of the most important texts in postcolonial literature, offering an authentic African perspective on the colonial encounter.
According to the center, from June 29 to July 5, over 10,000 lovers of culture, literary enthusiasts, and tourists will gather at the Centre For Memories in Enugu, for the "Things Fall Apart Festival 2025."
The center noted that the weeklong celebration is marking the 67th anniversary of the publication of Things Fall Apart, the literary classic that redefined African literature.
"From the huts where great men once lived, to the courts presided over by the Egwugwu, and the village square where palm wine flowed and moonlit tales were told — Ụmụọfia will be fully reimagined in our Things Fall Apart Village," the center said.
