In its bid to reduce the electricity suffering of the people of Enugu State, Mainpower Electricity Distribution Limited (MEDL) has given the signal that every household and business outfits will from Wednesday July 30 have prepaid meters.

Remember that the Enugu State Electricity Regulatory Commission (EERC) will from August 1st 2025 reduce the high tariff being charged the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC)

Even though there has been growing conspiracy against the good gesture of the EERC, the commission insists on reducing the tariff and has now through its subsidiary, Mainpower Electric, ordered for Mass metering of every electricity consumer in Enugu state.

The company said it will roll out mass prepaid meters via mobile Meter Asset Provider (MAP) Metering Programme across its network in Enugu State.

The Head, Corporate Communications, Mainpower Electric, Mr Emeka Ezeh, noted that the MAP metering programme was meant to fast-track metering process for unmetered customers in the state.

Eze said that the mass metering initiative, which would kick off on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, with its Abakpa and Ogui Districts, offers customers the opportunity to get metered within 72 hours.

He said that the Mobile MAP Metering Programme aligns with the company’s commitment to bridging the existing metering gap, improving transparency in billing and empowering customers with more control over their electricity consumption.

According to him, the programme will be conducted in phases across various district offices, ensuring that all unmetered customers have access to quick and convenient metering options.

Ezeh said that the Disco had urged customers in the selected districts to take advantage of the opportunity.

He emphasised that accurate metering empowers users to take full control of their energy consumption and eliminates billing disputes.

“Customers who are interested in the programme are required to visit the designated locations with a copy of their electricity bill and a valid means of identification,” he said.

He also said that the approved meter prices ranged from N137,062.50 for a Single-Phase meter to N227,900.00 for a Three-Phase meter, and the costs which are subject to monthly review are inclusive of 7.5 per cent VAT.

Ezeh noted that payment for meters during the programme would be with Debit Cards (ATM Cards) only, as cash transactions will not be accepted.

He assured customers that there were no extra or hidden charges involved in the process other than the payment for the meter.
