Nigeria plunged in Darkness as national grid collapses once third time
Today, Wednesday's collapse is asking it the third record time the grid collapsed in 2025
The Nationwide supply of electricity, also known as national grid has ones again collapsed, plunging the country into pinch darkness.
Today, Wednesday's collapse is asking it the third record time the grid collapsed in 2025. The first was January 11, 2025 when the Power generation dropped from 2,111.01 megawatts to 390.20
In February 12, 2025, a partial collapse occurred, causing a system outage that affected various parts of the country. The Transmission Company of Nigeria initially denied reports of a collapse, but the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company confirmed the outage.
Then today, September 10, 2025 The grid collapsed again, marking the country's first major blackout of the day. Power generation plummeted from 2,917.83 megawatts to just 1.5 megawatts between 11 am and 12 pm.
These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges with Nigeria's power infrastructure and the need for improvements to ensure reliable electricity supply.
Shortly after the collapse, the Nigeria National Grid, an X handle that provides updates on Electric power distribution announced that “System restoration is in progress.”
In another tweet, the X account stated that the Disco loads of all power distribution companies across the country aside Ibadan DisCo have come down to zero megawatt.
DisCo Load | 10th September, 2025 | 11:54 AM

“Disco load” is the amount of power (in megawatts, MW) allocated from the national grid to each Electricity Distribution Company (DisCo).
Confirming the development in a statement, the Abuja DisCo assured its customers that efforts are ongoing to stabilise the grid and restore power.
The statement read, “Dear Valued Customers, Please be informed that the power outage currently being experienced is due to a loss of supply from the national grid at 11:23 hrs today, affecting electricity supply across our franchise areas.
“Rest assured, we are working closely with the relevant stakeholders to ensure power is restored once the grid is stabilized. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
