Army Troops Exhume Remains of Slain Imo Community Leader

Troops of the 34 Artillery Brigade under Operation UDOKA have uncovered and exhumed the remains of late Chief Ibe Anyadu of Aggah Community in Imo State from a shallow grave in Umudike Forest.
The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Lt.-Col. Olabisi Ayeni, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Enugu.
Ayeni said the operation followed intelligence-led raids that led to the arrest of suspected members of a criminal gang linked to the killing of a Nigerian Army soldier and the recovery of stolen service weapons.
According to him, one of the suspects confessed to participating in Anyadu's murder and led troops to the burial site, where the remains were exhumed on Aug. 2 in the presence of the deceased's family, vigilante personnel from Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, and representatives of Aggah and Umudike communities.
He said the family provided a coffin and ambulance to facilitate a dignified burial in line with local customs.
The Commander of Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDOKA, Maj.-Gen. Oluremi Fadairo, condoled with the family and assured the community that those responsible would be prosecuted in accordance with the law, while reaffirming the military's commitment to dismantling criminal networks and restoring peace across the South-East.
