Man Arrested Over Alleged Rape of 15-Year-Old Girl in Calabar

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a man, Felix Solomon, over the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in Calabar, the state capital, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects linked to the incident.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Wednesday.

According to Eitokpah, the case was reported at the Ikpa Omin Police Division on September 8, 2026, following an allegation that the teenager was forcibly taken to a residence in the 8 Miles area of Calabar on September 4.

The victim was allegedly sexually assaulted by two suspects and prevented from leaving the residence for about three days.

The police spokesman said operatives of the division subsequently arrested Solomon, who is assisting investigators with information that could help unravel the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident and identify other persons allegedly involved.

“The Cross River State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in Calabar,” Eitokpah said.

He added that the command had activated appropriate investigative and child-protection procedures to safeguard the survivor’s privacy, dignity and welfare.

The police said the identity of the victim and other identifying details would not be disclosed in order to protect her from further trauma and stigmatisation.

The Commissioner of Police, Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, directed that the investigation be conducted professionally and in accordance with the law.

Ordue assured the public that anyone found culpable would be prosecuted and face the full consequences of the law upon conviction.

He also condemned all forms of sexual violence against children and urged parents, guardians and members of the public to promptly report suspected cases to the police or relevant child-protection authorities.

The command, however, cautioned against what it described as “trial by media,” stressing that all suspects remain presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
