LG Poll: Okolo Receives Traditional Ofor as Campaign Train Visits Owelli

The campaign train of the Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Okolo, on Saturday received a warm reception from residents and community leaders during its visit to Ama Ebo, Obodo Asaa and Owelli communities.

A major highlight of the engagement was the presentation of the traditional Ofor, a revered symbol of authority and honour, to Okolo by the traditional ruler of Owelli, HRH Igwe Marcel Onuora, Igwe Asaa I of Owelli.

The presentation, which took place amid interactions between the campaign team and members of the community, was described by participants as an expression of goodwill and recognition of Okolo's engagement with the grassroots.

The visit formed part of Okolo's ongoing campaign ahead of the forthcoming chairmanship election, during which he has been canvassing support for his agenda of grassroots representation, community development, accountability and responsive leadership.

Addressing residents, members of the campaign team emphasised the need for effective local government administration to complement the programmes and policies of the Enugu State Government by ensuring that development initiatives and public services have meaningful impact at the community level.

The campaign also highlighted the importance of stronger collaboration among local government leadership, traditional institutions and residents in identifying and addressing the development needs of communities.

At Ama Ebo and other stops along the route, residents and supporters gathered to receive the campaign delegation and listen to its message on continuity, development and grassroots engagement.

The presentation of the Ofor added a significant cultural dimension to the campaign visit, reflecting the role of traditional institutions in community affairs and their interaction with political and administrative leadership.

Speaking during the engagement, supporters said Okolo's campaign was focused on consolidating ongoing efforts in the council area while strengthening the relationship between the local government and the communities it serves.

The campaign train is expected to continue its engagements across communities in the council area as the chairmanship election approaches.

The Owelli visit further underscored the role of grassroots mobilisation and community participation in the local government electoral process, while providing an opportunity for residents and community leaders to interact directly with the candidate and his campaign team.

The campaign was organised around the themes of service, continuity, accountability and development, with emphasis on translating local leadership into tangible benefits for residents.
