Peter Obi’s Convoy Reportedly Attacked in Benue (VIDEO)

The convoy of former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, was reportedly attacked by suspected political thugs on the Airport-Gboko Road in Benue State on Tuesday.

Recall that the Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia had in 2025 warned Obi not to step foot in Benue State as he would not guarantee his security.

According to reports circulating online, the incident occurred while Obi was travelling into Benue State as part of his political engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The attackers were alleged to have confronted members of the convoy and warned Obi against entering the state. The reports further alleged that the incident was politically motivated and that the assailants were sponsored by unnamed political interests.

However, details surrounding the alleged attack remain unclear, and there was no immediate official confirmation from the Benue State Government or security agencies regarding the incident.

The reported development followed Obi’s recent political tour of parts of Kogi, Benue and Enugu states, during which he visited communities and interacted with residents.

In Benue, Obi stopped at Otukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area, where he engaged residents and traders along the route. During the visit, he reportedly heard concerns over insecurity, unemployment, healthcare and education.

He also urged Nigerians, particularly his supporters, to remain actively involved in the democratic process and protect their votes ahead of the 2027 elections.

The alleged incident comes against the backdrop of persistent security challenges in Benue State, where communities have in recent months experienced attacks, killings, abductions and destruction of property.

Obi has repeatedly spoken about insecurity in the state and other parts of North-Central Nigeria. In August, he described the attacks in Benue, Plateau and Niger states as a national security emergency, calling for improved intelligence gathering, faster security responses and the prosecution of perpetrators.

If confirmed, the reported attack on Obi’s convoy could further fuel concerns about political violence and the safety of political actors as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.

Security authorities are expected to establish what transpired on the Airport-Gboko Road, including whether Obi’s convoy was attacked and whether the incident was connected to his political activities.
