South East MACBAN Chairman Loses Two Sons, 40 Cattle in Alleged Ezeagu Cattle Camp Attack

Tragedy struck a cattle camp in Oheoyya Community, Ezeagu LGA, Enugu State on Saturday, as gunmen killed two herders and 40 cattle in a late afternoon raid.

The victims, Ahmadu and Umaru, are sons of Alhaji Haruna Sale, South-East Zonal Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN.

In a statement, MACBAN National Deputy Director General, Gidado Siddiki, said the attack occurred at about 5:00pm on July 25, 2026, when unidentified assailants invaded the camp.

“Two of our members were killed and about 40 cattle were destroyed during the attack,” Siddiki said.

MACBAN commended the Enugu State Government and security agencies for swift intervention that led to the recovery of the bodies from the forest. 

The recovery, the group said, allowed the families to conduct burial in line with Islamic rites.

“We sincerely appreciate the Government of Enugu State and the security agencies for their prompt response,” Siddiki stated.

MACBAN Demands Probe

The association urged security agencies to intensify investigations, identify, arrest and prosecute those behind the killings.

It insisted that its members in the South-East are engaged in legitimate cattle rearing and trading protected by Nigerian law.

MACBAN also appealed for calm and continued peaceful coexistence between herders and host communities.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to peace, the rule of law, and working with government and host communities to ensure security and national unity.
